ANSYS Tutorial: Update Project
Workbench has many useful functions which have not been utilized well. Update Project is one of them. According to its literal interpretation, Update Project intends to update all cells in the project that are in an update required state. It sounds quite plain and is ignored by a lot of Workbench users. In fact it is much more powerful than it looks like. With right settings, it helps us to do simulation in a smarter way. Here are detailed descriptions on some wonderful applications of it.
Run Simulations in Queue
To run simulations in queue is the most efficient and economical way to do multiple analyses. We can setup simulation before we go home and let computer do the job all night. Don’t keep our expansive licenses resting in vain. When we come back next day, we can just continue with post-processing.
If simulations are located in different projects, RSM is the only solution. Here you can find more information. But if all simulations are included in one project, Update Project is easier. All we need to do is to finish pre-processing and click on Update Project in the toolbar of Project Schematic. All simulations in the project will be solved in queue.
Get Result Automatically
For users who utilize RSM it is very boring to get results manually, especially with a large model and/or slow network. It is not unusual to take hours to download results. Some users ask us if it is possible to get results automatically. The answer is Yes!
To do so we have to set the remote server (or My Computer, Background) as default solving server. Then go to Project Schematic and click on Update Project. All results will be downloaded to local machine when solutions are finished.
Run Coupled Analyses via RSM
This is an extended application of the previous one. When we run coupled analyses, such as thermal-stress analysis, results from thermal analysis are load conditions in stress analysis. If we run simulation in local machine, there is no problem and it goes through continuously. But if we run simulation via RSM, we have to download thermal result before we can continue with stress analysis. Procedures mentioned in the previous application will make the process easier. Just one click on Update Project will go through both analyses.
Update Project from the Project Schematic will not solve a Solution Combination in the Mechanical application.
In case of multiple design points, Update Project updates only the Current design point (DP0) and does not update any other design points.
