Cyclic Symmetry in ANSYS v14.5

A number of enhancements have been made to improve the performance of the post-processor for cyclic symmetry models in ANSYS version 14.5. One of them is to display and animate results to only a fraction of the total model; consequently a fraction of the memory and computational expense is needed. Cyclic symmetry can for example be used on fan wheels and turbine blades, and is performed by dividing the model into N sectors, reducing the memory and computation time with 1/N when post-processing only a single sector. This can be a helpful tool when working on large models with small sector angels.

Force and Moment Reactions in V14.5

Previous editions of ANSYS Workbench had the opportunity of post-processing reaction forces and moments, however with limited options. In ANSYS 14.5 you are able to look at the reaction forces and moments anywhere on the geometry.

Graphical Views in V14.5

ANSYS 14.5 presents a new function that enables you to save your model in positions for post-processing purposes. The advantage is that you don’t need to be so careful when demonstrating your results since ANSYS now can memorize the perfect view for you. All you need to do is place your model in a desired position and save it.

Duplicate Conditions on Multiple Parts in ANSYS V14.5

Duplicating various conditions has been possible in previous editions of ANSYS. However, in ANSYS 14.5, this has been simplified where only a few steps are needed. This is a timesaving application where all the information regarding one item can be patterned onto multiple parts, maintaining all details. Not only does it apply to bolt pretension as will be demonstrated here, but to all loads, boundary conditions as well as mesh details.

Submodeling in ANSYS V14.5

Submodeling is a special feature in ANSYS 14.5 that previously was restricted to Mechanical APDL. The aim is to produce satisfactory results in a specific region where inaccurate results have been obtained. For instance, coarse mesh may not give sufficient accurate stress results. Therefore, by creating a submodel on the region of interest, new results may be achieved. In principal, the displacements calculated on the cut boundaries of the coarse model are mapped onto the submodel. Not only are more accurate results the benefit of this application, but also the possibility of experimenting with different designs for the region of interest. In addition, it helps you in demonstrating the dependency of mesh refinement. The mechanical application allows submodeling for structural (stress) and thermal analyses.

Surface tracking in free-surface flows

Many multiphase flows consist of two or more immiscible phases that are separated by distinct large-scale surfaces (e.g. free-surface flows), rather than being distributed in droplets or bubbles. Using VOF modeling, a single set of momentum equations is solved together with an equation for the volume fraction.

How to use pre/post and batch solver licenses in ANSYS.

When using the pre/post and batch solver setup compared to using full licenses, some settings has to be done within ANSYS and maybe some changes in your working methodology. These settings and changes are described in this tutorial both for ANSYS Workbench and ANSYS Mechanical APDL.
